# Setting Up Free Shipping in WooCommerce

Free shipping lets you enable a shipping method with no cost to the customer. This guide covers adding a free shipping method to a shipping zone, setting the criteria that must be met before free shipping applies, and creating a coupon that grants free shipping.

## Enabling Free Shipping for a Shipping Zone

1. In your WordPress admin, hover over **WooCommerce** and select **Settings**, then **Shipping**.
2. Pick the shipping **Zone** you want to add free shipping to.
3. Within the zone, select the **Add shipping method** button and choose **Free shipping** from the dropdown.
4. To edit the shipping method, select the method's **title** or the **edit** link that appears when hovering over it.

## Setting Free Shipping Requirements

In the shipping method's popup you can:

- Set a **Method title** for the shipping method.
- Use the **Free shipping requires** field to set criteria that must be met before free shipping is allowed. The available options are:
  - Non-applicable
  - A valid free shipping coupon
  - A minimum order amount (defined in the field below)
  - A minimum order amount or a coupon
  - A minimum order amount and a coupon

> If you choose any option that involves a minimum order amount, be sure to set that amount in the corresponding field.

5. Select **Save changes** and your free shipping method is set up for that zone.

## Creating a Free Shipping Coupon

If you haven't used coupons in WooCommerce before, review the documentation on creating coupons first. To set up a free shipping coupon:

1. Hover over **WooCommerce** and select **Coupons**, then **Add Coupon**.
2. Create the coupon as you would any other. You don't have to set a coupon amount — although you can, for example if you want to offer a 10% discount and free shipping with one coupon.
3. For free shipping, make sure the **Allow free shipping** checkbox is checked in the **General** section.
4. With the shipping method set to require a valid free shipping coupon, **Publish** the coupon and distribute it however you like — for example in a newsletter or on social media — to reward customers with free shipping.
