# Setting Up Shipping Rates and Zones in WooCommerce

This guide explains how to configure shipping in WooCommerce, including creating shipping zones, adding flat rate and free shipping methods, handling international (rest of the world) shipping, and testing your rates at checkout.

## Open Shipping Settings

1. From the WordPress dashboard, go to **WooCommerce → Settings**.
2. Open the **Shipping** settings tab.

Shipping zones are the geographical locations you ship your products to. You can create multiple zones — for example, one zone for California with a specific rate, one for the entire United States, one for Europe, and so on — and add as many shipping rates per zone as you want.

## Create a Shipping Zone

1. Click **Add zone**.
2. Name the zone — for example, **United States**.
3. Choose the region. You can type in the country, choose individual states, or even enter ZIP codes to create specific rates for those areas.
4. Click **Add shipping method**.

## Add a Flat Rate (Standard Shipping)

When adding a shipping method you have three options:

- **Free shipping** — for when you don't want to charge extra for shipping.
- **Flat rate** — for when you want to charge for shipping.
- **Local pickup** — a free option where customers pick up their products at your physical location.

To add a flat rate:

1. Choose **Flat rate** and click **Continue**.
2. Name the rate — for example, **Standard shipping**.
3. For **Taxable status**, choose **None**.
4. Enter the shipping cost — for example, **$7**.
5. Click **Create and save**.

## Add Free Shipping for a Minimum Order Amount

1. Click **Add shipping method** again and choose **Free shipping**, then **Continue**.
2. Leave the name as **Free shipping**.
3. Add a requirement: set **Minimum order amount** to **$40**.
4. Click **Create and save**.

> Drag the **free shipping** method above the **standard shipping** method so that free shipping is selected by default when the order amount is above the minimum. Then click **Save changes**.

## Add Zones for Other Regions

Click **Add zone** to add as many zones as you want, for example one for Canada or one for Europe.

## Add a Rate for the Rest of the World

The **Rest of the world** zone covers all regions you haven't defined. If you sell internationally, add a shipping rate here too:

1. Click **Edit** on the rest of the world zone.
2. Click **Edit shipping method**, choose **Flat rate**, and **Continue**.
3. Name it **Standard shipping**, set **Taxable status** to **None**, and charge a higher rate for international shipping — for example, **$15**.
4. Click **Save**.

## Testing Your Shipping Rates

1. Go to your shop and add a product to the cart.
2. Go to checkout. With the region set to **United States** and an order amount below $40, the shipping rate shows **$7**.
3. Change the region to another country to see the **$15** international rate.
4. Add another product to the cart and go to checkout again. When the region is set back to **United States** and the order is above $40, the **free shipping** method appears as an option.
